Low cloud returns to most parts through the evening to bring a cloudy night with extensive hill fog as outbreaks of heavy and persistent rain spread across the region, potentially thundery at times. Minimum temperature 15 °C.

Sunday:

A cloudy start with extensive low cloud and hill fog. Early spells of heavy thundery rain clearing to give sunny intervals and isolated heavy showers into the afternoon. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

A cloudy start Monday, with patchy rain or showers, drier and brighter later. Cloudy, windy and cool Tuesday, with rain followed by a brighter afternoon. Cool, bright and showery Wednesday.

Initially cool with northerly winds providing showers along exposed northern, western and eastern coasts, but also a few inland at times too, although central and southern areas may stay fairly dry and sunny. Showers wintry on the mountain tops in Scotland. Towards the end of the week and into the weekend it will likely turn more widely drier for a time, especially in central and southern areas, with the greater chance of rain and blustery conditions in the north and northwest. A gradual recovery in temperature is also expected as winds become more westerly. By the following week, while confidence is low a trend towards more settled conditions is most likely, accompanied by warmer temperatures. That said, some rain or showers are still possible, especially in the south and/or northwest.

The focus for wetter weather overall is more likely to return to north and especially northwestern areas, whilst southern and eastern areas have a greater chance of being drier relative to earlier in the month. Temperatures are likely to be around average overall, though with greater potential for brief spells of warm weather in the south.
