Tonight:

A mainly dry evening with clear spells, just the odd shower over Galloway. Outbreaks of rain will arrive from the west after midnight but the Borders should remain dry. Minimum temperature 6 °C.

Wednesday:

A cloudy start with outbreaks of rain moving east. Drier and brighter weather will soon reach the west coast, spreading to all parts by early afternoon. Maximum temperature 14 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Mainly dry with bright spells on Thursday but showers will arrive into the west. Sunshine and showers on Friday and Saturday, these heavy at times.

Looking ahead, the unsettled theme is set to continue with showers and longer spells of rain, especially in the west and northwest. Temperatures should remain around average for this time of the year, although it may feel colder at times in the wind and rain. In the short-lived settled periods of drier and clearer conditions, there is the potential for some overnight frost or fog, which would be slow to clear.

Temperatures will probably be around average for the time of year, though in those drier spells, overnight frost and fog will become more widespread. In early November, the west is likely to stay on the wet and windy side, with an increasing chance of drier and brighter weather in the east. Temperatures under these conditions could feel mild by day and cool by night. Early signs for mid November indicate a return to frequent bands of rain and strong winds moving from west to east, though there is low confidence at this stage.
