Rather cloudy in many areas with scattered showers. Best of any drier and brighter spells around the Solway coast. Mostly light winds but northwesterly winds strengthening over Galloway. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Tonight:

There will still be some showers in the east at first, otherwise mostly dry overnight with clear periods developing. Brisk northwesterly winds. Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Thursday:

Mainly dry morning with some sunshine. Cloudy skies and rain with snow on hills reaching Dumfries and Galloway later in afternoon, then Lothians and Borders during the evening. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Mainly dry on Friday with sunshine and a few showers. A band of persistent, heavier rain crossing all parts on Saturday. Drier, brighter weather returning on Sunday with rain later.

Hill snow likely in the north. Temperatures generally around average, with a chance of strong winds along southern and northwestern coasts. Moving through the period, largely unsettled conditions are likely to persist, with the chance of further showers and longer spells of rain, heavy in places, with a chance of gales for some exposed areas. Potential for drier and brighter conditions in the east at times. Some showers are likely to turn wintry at higher elevations. Towards the end of the period, more settled conditions may develop with some cold interludes likely.

Going into the Christmas period, temperatures are most likely to be close to normal for the time of year, although some colder spells remain possible. It is likely to become more settled around Christmas and towards New Year with increased chance of overnight frost and fog during clearer spells.
