A rather cloudy day, with outbreaks of showery rain, locally heavy at times, especially in the morning. The rain gradually easing during the afternoon, with occasional bright or sunny spells developing in places. Light winds. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Tonight:

Low cloud, mist and fog affecting some coastal districts overnight. Largely dry at first, before further outbreaks of rain, locally heavy, arrives later in the night. Light winds. Minimum temperature 9 °C.

Thursday:

Rather cloudy with outbreaks of rain, locally heavy, during the morning. Becoming drier with bright or warm sunny spells developing, especially inland, into the afternoon. Cooler and cloudier on coasts. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Friday and Saturday will see a mixture of warm sunny spells and scattered showers, heavy and possibly thundery. Fewer showers on Sunday. Perhaps cooler and cloudier on coasts at times.

UK long range weather forecast

The weather will be changeable, with daytime showers continuing across the UK on Sunday and possibly Monday. The heaviest showers and greatest risk of thunderstorms is expected across southern parts, while northern areas are more likely to see drier, more settled conditions developing for a time. Temperatures will be generally around or just a little above average. With winds tending to be light, it will feel warm in sunnier areas. As we head further into the following week, confidence lowers into the following week. On balance, a continuation of the showers in the south seems most likely, with the north continuing to see the best of any drier weather. Temperatures will probably remain a little above average.

Similar weather conditions to those of the preceding few days are most likely to characterise this period to the end of May; a mixture of unsettled periods with rain and showers and settled interludes in-between. Through the first half of June, the chances of above and below average rainfall are evenly balanced. There is a slightly higher likelihood of above average temperatures compared with below average temperatures, such that the chance of hot spells, although still very small, is slightly higher than normal too.
