Today:

Scattered showers at first brought on fresh to strong northwesterly winds. Winds easing and showers dying away through the morning, with bright and sunny spells turning widespread for a time on a largely dry afternoon. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Tonight:

Patchy rain extending from the west during the evening, clearing to showers overnight, these blustery and occasionally heavy in the west. Minimum temperature 1 °C.

Tuesday:

Very windy with blustery showers, these more frequent across western areas of Central and Tayside. Gale force westerly winds touching severe gale, perhaps storm force, overnight. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Wednesday starts showery and very windy, before turning largely dry and bright with easing winds by afternoon. Thursday and Friday occasionally windy with some rain and showers.

Saturday is likely to be mostly cloudy, with some patchy rain and drizzle, especially for western upslopes. Some clear and sunny spells are possible to start, followed by a band of rain, locally heavy, approaching the southeast. Winds generally moderate, but locally strong in the north. Further into the period, more unsettled conditions are likely in the north and northwest, where longer spells of rain and strong winds are expected. The south is likely to see some drier spells, although some light rain or drizzle remain possible. Some overnight fog patches are possible in the south under clear skies. Winds varying from strong in the northwest to light in the southeast. Temperatures near normal or mild.

While uncertain, a continuation of the regional divide between the north and south is expected as the broad theme for this period. Unsettled conditions are more likely to dominate in the north while the south remains settled and drier. A spell of more widely spread wet and windy weather is likely to persist for several days across all areas, although wettest conditions will focus in the west. Temperatures are most likely to remain around average or above.
