A dull, cloudy day with occasional patchy light rain ranging across the Highlands and Islands on southwesterly breezes. However it will be mild and the best of the shelter will be found towards Inverness. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Tonight:

Cloud and patchy rain across all areas at first, this clearing southeast during the evening, with a few isolated light showers following to the far north. Windy. Minimum temperature 3 °C.

Wednesday:

Windy. Isolated light showers during morning, but a mainly dry day with plenty of sunshine. Cloud feeding from west late afternoon, bringing patchy rain for evening, which turns heavy overnight. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Thursday brings bands of rain, heavy at times, particularly across the west. Friday and Saturday uncertain for details but current thoughts have occasional rain Friday, then sunshine and showers Saturday.

UK long range weather forecast

Confidence is low for this weekend, but it looks sunny for many, once patchy rain in the south clears. There will be some blustery showers in the northwest though, with the risk of gales in the far north. Through the latter stages of March, we will see a good deal of dry weather across central and southeastern parts of the UK, with bright or sunny spells. It will be more changeable across the northwest, with rain and strong winds from time to time. Temperatures are most likely to be around the average for the time of year, although some warmer periods are likely in the southeast when the sun shines. However, occasionally in the northwest it may be rather cold.

For the start of April, changeable conditions are likely, with near normal temperatures across the UK. Thereafter, the forecast looks more uncertain, but it seems most likely that we will see changeable conditions across the UK once again. Wet and windy weather may be interspersed with drier and brighter spells, with the most unsettled conditions still probable in the north. By the middle of the month, we may see a return of more widely settled weather. Temperatures could potentially start off a little warmer than average, but they may fall nearer to the seasonal average for a time in early April.
