UK forecast for the next 5 days

Showers for many, merging to more persistent rain at times.

Today:

A band of showers and rain across western parts of the UK at first, heavy at times, will spread gradually eastwards, though become increasingly fragmented. Elsewhere, a scattering of showers, but remaining mostly dry, fine and warm in the southeast.

Tonight:

Becoming drier in the north of the UK. Further showery rain will spread across many southern areas, heavy at times, particularly parts of the southeast and east.

Saturday:

Showery rain in the south will spread northwards. The rain heavy at times. Best of any sunshine across Scotland, Northern Ireland, and later the south and southeast of England.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Heavy rain in the north on Sunday, clearing from the south later. Sunny spells and scattered showers on Monday. Heavy showers Tuesday, merging in the west.

Issued at: 0500 on Fri 01 Aug 2014

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Wednesday 6 Aug 2014 to Friday 15 Aug 2014:

A mixture of sunshine and scattered showers are likely during Wednesday and Thursday, although southern and eastern parts are likely to see more frequent drier intervals and sunny spells. It then remains unsettled Friday and into the weekend, especially in the northwest but with a low risk of thundery showers in the south and east at times. A gradual trend to more settled conditions across the south is then signalled by the end of the period, with more in the way of drier and brighter weather, but likely to stay unsettled across the northwest. Temperatures generally near normal, but often warm towards the south and east. Winds generally light to moderate, but locally strong in the northwest at times.

UK Outlook for Saturday 16 Aug 2014 to Saturday 30 Aug 2014:

Current signals are for westerly type conditions to dominate during this period. As such, most regions can expect to see spells of fine weather, with some warm sunshine at times. However these spells will then be interspersed with more changeable conditions bringing showery outbreaks and perhaps more prolonged spells of rain. These conditions are most likely across northern and western parts, whilst southern and eastern parts are likely to see the most frequent and prolonged fine spells. There is also a trend for temperatures to be around or above average, and perhaps turning very warm at times during the more settled spells, particularly in the south and east.
