Regional forecast for Strathclyde

Bright or sunny intervals and a few showers.

Today:

A much brighter though colder day with some sunny intervals. Scattered showers mainly in the north and west, wintry over hills, tending to become more isolated in the afternoon. Fresh westerly winds, stronger northwesterlies over the Argyll islands. Maximum Temperature 7C.

Tonight:

Clear intervals and a few showers at first then becoming generally cloudy. Some patchy rain though becoming more persistent over Argyll. Minimum Temperature 3C.

Tuesday:

Northern Argyll will be cloudy with outbreaks of fairly persistent rain. Elsewhere rain will be patchy with some good dry spells in Lanarkshire and Ayshire. Milder, with fresh southwesterly winds. Maximum Temperature 8C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Becoming colder again on Wednesday and Thursday with snow showers to low levels, slight to moderate falls. Wintry showers on Friday, though probably rain at lowest levels. Occasional gales.

UK forecast for the next 5 days

Rain clearing southeast, then mainly dry with sunny spells.

Today:

Rain across central England and Wales will clear southeast through the morning, then it will be mainly dry with sunny spells. However, there will be scattered showers in the north, these wintry in far north where also heavy at times.

Tonight:

Cloudy and breezy in the north with showers giving way to outbreaks of rain across northwest Scotland. Dry and chilly elsewhere with a local frost, mainly in the south.

Tuesday:

Cloudy across most parts, but with some brighter spells across the south. Occasional outbreaks of light rain across northwest Scotland will turn heavier and more persistent later on. Becoming breezier.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

A band of rain pushing southeast Wednesday introducing increasingly cold conditions through Thursday and Friday. Wintry showers over most parts, with snow likely accumulating, especially at higher levels. Very windy.

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Friday 30 Jan 2015 to Sunday 8 Feb 2015:

Sunny spells and blustery wintry showers Friday, the latter primarily affecting northern and western parts with snow across hills and to low levels in the north. It will likely turn even colder through the weekend with sleet and snow showers, frequent across northern parts, with overnight frost and ice. Strong northerly winds, with gales in places, will accentuate the cold with a significant wind chill. The best of the drier, brighter conditions will be in the south. These conditions may well last into the first week of February, but there are signs of more changeable weather by the end of the forecast period. By then, spells of wind and rain would mean that temperatures may return to nearer normal and the likelihood of snow, frost and ice would be lower.

UK Outlook for Monday 9 Feb 2015 to Monday 23 Feb 2015:

It looks most likely that unsettled conditions will continue across much of the UK with temperatures closer to normal when compared to the start of February. This may be more obvious across parts of southern and western Britain where it might be a little wetter than average as spells of wind and rain make their way in from the Atlantic.
