A grey and murky start, particularly in the east where mist and fog could be slow to clear. Brighter in the west with some sunny intervals. Generally light winds, although a little breezy on Cornish coasts, and feeling chilly. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Tonight:

Mist and fog readily developing in the east overnight, with some clearer skies in the west. Staying breezy in the far west, and feeling chilly with a rural frost possible. Minimum temperature 3 °C.

Wednesday:

Fog may linger for a while in the east, but drier and brighter in the west with sunny intervals, particularly during the afternoon. Winds easing, but feeling chilly. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Staying largely dry this week, though often cloudy. Clearer skies overnight leading to fog and frost in places, with fog potentially slow to clear. Feeling increasingly cold but light winds.

On Saturday, rather cloudy with occasional showers, these most frequent in the east and on southern coasts. Most sunshine will be seen in western and northwestern areas. At the weekend and into the start of next week, showers are likely, mainly in eastern and southeastern areas and perhaps some more persistent rain to the southwest. These may become wintry, but this risk will be mostly confined to higher ground. Towards the end of the period similar conditions are expected to continue with showers present in eastern and southern coastal areas. These also have the potential to become wintry on higher ground. Temperatures are expected to be below average, especially in the south at the start of the period where easterly winds will make it feel somewhat colder.

Confidence remains low for this period. More settled conditions are expected, with the potential for higher pressure over the UK, leading to drier weather. Whilst temperatures may average out close to normal overall, colder conditions are possible at times, with a risk of overnight frost and fog higher than normal.
