A rather cloudy day, though mostly dry.

Today:

Patchy rain at first, especially in the east. Staying on the cloudy side for much of the day, though it'll become generally dry. A few glimmers of brightness possible from time to time. Feeling warmer in any sunnier spells. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Tonight:

A dry evening with mostly cloudy skies. Little change overnight, though a few spots of light rain or drizzle may be possible over the hills during the early hours. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Tuesday:

A fairly cloudy day is expected, with limited brightness. Some patchy light rain and drizzle will still be possible over the hills. Turning increasingly wet and windy through the evening. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Wet and breezy on Wednesday, with rain turning heavy at times. Brighter on Thursday, ahead of further wind and rain moving in from the west during Friday. Temperatures above average.

This period is likely to start changeable and often unsettled but relatively mild, with rain or showers for most places. There is potential for a deep area of low pressure to develop to the west or northwest of the UK early in this period, bringing a spell of very strong winds and heavy rain, especially to parts of the west and north. Towards the latter part of October, there are signs that whilst northwestern areas may continue to feel the influence of areas of low pressure, further south pressure is expected to build, bringing more in the way of fine, settled conditions. With this comes an increasing chance of overnight frost and fog, with the latter perhaps persisting well into the day in some areas.

Potentially some wet and windy weather at first, especially in the northwest, but a trend towards more settled conditions is most favoured for late October as high pressure becomes increasingly dominant. This would bring the potential for frost and fog at night, and possibly large variations between daytime and overnight temperatures. Into early November, high pressure may become more centred to the northwest of the UK, resulting in a gradual trend towards more unsettled conditions, particularly across southern regions.
