South West England weather forecast

Headline:

Cold with patchy rain bringing ice and hill snow.

Today:

Largely cloudy with some outbreaks of showery rain. This means there is a risk of some icy stretches, and some snow falling over hills and moors. Rather breezy too, especially around coasts, where it will feel particularly chilly. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Tonight:

Staying largely cloudy to start the evening with cloud gradually clearing southwards overnight. Turning cold and frosty under clear skies with the odd spot of mist and fog around. Minimum temperature 0 °C.

Friday:

A cold end to the week with frost and possibly some icy stretches to start. Then dry with plenty of sunshine once any early morning fog clears. Feeling rather chilly. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Cold and sunny on Saturday with the odd coastal shower. Cloudier from Sunday, still feeling chilly and a risk of scattered showers. Turning rather damp on Monday with strengthening winds.

Updated:

UK long range weather forecast

A fair amount of uncertainty at the start of this period as milder and more generally unsettled conditions towards the south and west try and extend further north and east. It is likely that northern and perhaps some eastern areas will start off cold with further overnight frosts and wintry showers in places. Indeed, northern Scotland may remain on the cold side, at least for the first few days of this period. Elsewhere, milder, or at least less cold weather than the preceding days, with areas of rain and stronger winds, this erratically spreading further north and east with time. Moving towards mid December and more generally unsettled and milder conditions look most probable with any colder interludes likely to be short-lived.

Updated:

Conditions are most likely to be changeable through this period. Wetter and windier than average conditions are slightly more likely than normal, especially in the west and northwest. Temperatures are most likely to be near or above average overall, although this doesn't rule out some spells of cold weather and associated wintry hazards, though the chances of any prolonged spells of cold weather are low.
