A cloudy start to the day with patchy rain and drizzle in the far north. Turning widely overcast and rather murky this afternoon as the rain sinks southwards, with patchy mist and hill fog developing in rural areas. Light winds. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Tonight:

Overcast, with patchy rain lingering across central and southern areas this evening. Turning drier by the morning, however remaining overcast with widespread mist and patchy fog inland. Minimum temperature 12 °C.

Monday:

A misty morning for many, with patchy rain lingering on the Gower Peninsula, but soon turning dry and bright across the country. A warm afternoon with plenty of sunny spells. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Dry and settled over the coming few days, with high pressure bringing periods of warm sunshine by day, but cooler nights with mist and fog developing in rural parts.

At first, most parts of the UK will be warm and dry with sunny spells. Eastern coasts may see some more persistent cloud at times and a stiff easterly breeze is likely in the south. Through the weekend, similar conditions will prevail in the north of the UK, while southern parts see an increasing chance of showers, some of which could be heavy or thundery. Into next week, while the threat of showers remains in the south, high pressure may well become re-established from the north with settled conditions becoming more prevalent once again, albeit cooler than at the beginning of the period. Towards the end of September, however, there are increasing signals for a return to more changeable conditions with wind and rain spreading from the west.

Typical Autumn weather will probably affect the UK with a mix of weather types during late September and early October. Periods of wet, unsettled weather will likely be broken up by some spells of more settled, drier weather. Overall, the wettest conditions will probably be in the west with the east drier. Temperatures are most likely to be close to or slightly above average.
