Unsettled with spells of heavy showers. Breezy. Cooler.

Today:

A band of heavy and blustery showers will move southeast across the region this morning, clearing to an afternoon of bright spells and scattered showers. Showers may be heavy at times with a chance of thunder before easing later. Cooler. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Tonight:

Showers will ease during the evening with drier conditions gradually spreading across the region from the northwest. Showers may continue to affect far southeastern parts throughout. Remaining breezy. Minimum temperature 6 °C.

Tuesday:

Cool and cloudy start with any early showers in the far southeast soon clearing. Brightening up from the west to sunny spells and a few showers. Temperatures below average. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Remaining changeable Wednesday with scattered showers. Largely cloudy and dry Thursday. Outbreaks of rain and drizzle overnight and Friday morning, then brighter. Temperatures turning a little milder Thursday.

From Friday onwards and into the new week a build of high pressure will likely occur, meaning more in the way of dry weather across the UK as a whole. Cloud cover is rather uncertain, as some cloudy and clear regions are expected, with the chance of frost and fog where the clearer conditions are to be found overnight. A few light showers or some will still be possible at times, if these develop they will be slightly more likely to affect northern and eastern areas. Temperatures will overall be close to average, probably quite a muted daily cycle in cloudier areas. However, in clearer areas, some chilly nights are likely alongside days that will feel fairly mild in any sunshine.

Updated:

Towards the end of April, high pressure will probably be close to the UK with a good deal of dry weather for many areas. Moving into May, these settled conditions will probably move northwards, with the driest weather across the northwest of the UK. If any more unsettled conditions develop these are more likely to affect south with a risk of some heavy rain or showers. Temperatures will probably be close to average overall, with warm days but some colder nights.
