A dull start with patchy drizzle. Cloud will tend to break up away from the coast by the afternoon, allowing warm sunny spells to develop. Risk of a few heavy showers breaking out, mainly over Derbyshire hills, otherwise largely dry. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

Tonight:

Cloud spreading inland and thickening during the evening, bringing further patchy rain and drizzle overnight, particularly across hills and coastal areas. Some clearer spells may develop towards dawn. Minimum temperature 13 °C.

Saturday:

Cloud breaking up Saturday morning to sunny spells. Showers breaking out as temperatures rise, with a risk of afternoon thunderstorms and heavy downpours. Cloud pushing inland again late on. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Cloud and heavy, locally thundery, rain spreading northwards through Sunday. This rain expected to linger, slowly clearing eastward Monday after further heavy downpours. Bright spells and isolated daytime showers Tuesday.

Some rain across southeastern parts, lighter and not as extensive as previous days and tending to ease away to the southeast by the end of Tuesday. Elsewhere, generally settled conditions prevailing for most places, although with a band of cloud and some rain moving across the far north, particularly the northwest and a few showers moving into western parts further south. Temperatures likely a bit cooler than previous days. A transition to a generally more unsettled, mobile westerly pattern is most likely by midweek and beyond, with spells of wind and rain moving into many areas, but more especially in the south. Towards the end of the week, much cooler, showery conditions are expected for many parts with the north and west likely being a focus for these showers.

Typical autumn weather will probably affect the UK with a mix of weather types through the first half of October. Periods of unsettled conditions, with wind and rain at times, will likely be interspersed with shorter spells of calmer and drier weather. Overall, wetter than average conditions are expected during this period, especially in central and southern areas. Temperatures are most likely to be close to or slightly above average overall, although some cooler spells are possible at times.
