Largely fine start, especially across eastern parts with sunny spells and only isolated showers. Cloud then thickening, particularly across western areas, with more frequent showers by the afternoon. These wintry at times over the hills. Rather windy throughout. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Tonight:

Staying windy overnight with showers. Cloud thickening further during the evening with more persistent rain moving into western hills by the early hours. This perhaps still wintry across hilltops. Minimum temperature 0 °C.

Wednesday:

Overnight rain clearing south again during Wednesday morning. Drier in the north and east, with cloud breaking to allow some brighter or sunny spells. Staying breezy. Rain returning north later. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Rather mild, breezy and often cloudy, especially across the Pennines, where cloud will be thick enough for outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Best of the sunshine in the east.
