North East England weather forecast

Headline:

Sunshine and showers, some heavy with a risk of thunder.

Today:

A bright start for many, with early showery rain clearing southwards to leave some sunny spells. Cloud will develop through the morning, leading to some scattered heavy showers with thunder possible. Mainly light winds, with temperatures near average for most. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Tonight:

Showers should become fewer and further between overnight, although one or two further sharp showers remain possible. Locally chilly by dawn under lasting clearer spells given light winds. Minimum temperature 5 °C.

Tuesday:

Another day of sunny spells but also scattered heavy showers, especially inland, with isolated thunder again possible. Probably cloudier than Monday and consequently a little cooler. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Mainly fine midweek with sunshine and light winds. Temperatures rising later in the week ahead of gradual ingress of more unsettled conditions and eventually some rain from the west Friday.

Updated:

UK long range weather forecast

Following a couple of days of largely fine and settled weather, a gradual transition to more changeable conditions from the Atlantic is likely to take place with periods of cloud, rain and stronger winds most often affecting the west and northwest. There remains a small chance of an area of heavy, thundery rain affecting parts of the south on Friday 21st, possibly accompanied by briefly hot and humid conditions. Into the last week of June, changeable conditions are likely to remains dominant, with the focus for these conditions continuing to be across the north and west, with spells of more settled and drier conditions likely in the south and east. Nationwide, temperatures are expected to be close to or slightly above average.

Updated:

There is little sign for any one type of weather pattern to dominate during this period. As such, typical conditions for the UK are most probable with a mixture of weather types. All areas can expected to see some spells of drier, sunnier weather, but there will also be showers or longer spells of rain at times. Currently the only signals, weak as they are, hint that rain and showers will tend to be more biased towards the north and west, with any more prolonged drier interludes favouring the south. Temperatures are most likely to be close to or slightly above climatological average.
