Headline:

Mainly dry, sunny but rather cold.

Today:

A mainly dry, but rather cold day with some bright or sunny spells. The odd shower possible at first along the Berwickshire coast, and the Rhins of Galloway later, and perhaps over inland areas in the afternoon Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Tonight:

A drier clearer spell in the evening. Turning cloudier overnight, with some showers developing, along with a freshening westerly wind. Minimum temperature 3 °C.

Friday:

Rather cloudy with frequent showers and a few bright or sunny intervals. Fresh west to southwesterly breeze. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Sunny intervals and blustery showers on Saturday. Sunday cloudy with outrbreaks of rain. Monday mainly dry, sunny, breezy and somewhat milder.

Much of this period will be dominated by high pressure to the east of the UK, and areas of low pressure over the Atlantic. Bands of cloud and rain will attempt to push eastwards at times, but possibly weakening as they do so. As such, there may be some reasonable dry weather during the early part of next week, with any significant rain most likely western areas. However, from midweek onwards it is possible low pressure may become increasingly influential, with an increased chance of rain, showers and perhaps strong winds, especially in the west or northwest. With winds often from a southerly direction, temperatures will likely trend above average, with some warm conditions possible at times. Towards the end of the period high pressure may become more influential.

Potentially some wet and windy weather at first, especially in the northwest, but a trend towards more settled conditions is most favoured for late October as high pressure becomes increasingly dominant. This would bring the potential for frost and fog at night, and possibly large variations between daytime and overnight temperatures. Into early November, high pressure may become more centred to the northwest of the UK, resulting in a gradual trend towards more unsettled conditions.
