Headline:

Showery and seasonally cool. Periods of rain, gales in north.

Today:

Windy and showery day with gales in the north. Showers frequent and occasionally heavy, also merging to longer periods of rain at times north of the Black Isle. Best of limited shelter around the southern end of the Great Glen. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Tonight:

The strong north to northwest winds will continue to drive frequent showers across the area, with heaviest outbreaks likely across the north and far west. Minimum temperature 3 °C.

Wednesday:

Another cool, windy, showery day, but winds lighter than Tuesday. Showers quite frequent, occasionally heavy, with southern end of Great Glen again seeing the best of the limited shelter. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Showery north to northwest flow gradually easing through Thursday. Dry, bright, cold start to Friday, then rain spreading from west by evening that lingers for much of Saturday.

Initially fine for most locations during this period the early part of this period, with a weak front bringing cloud and patchy rain across central parts of UK returning northwards through Sunday into Monday, and perhaps bringing rainfall to the northwest, which could be heavy for a time across the hills of Northwest Scotland. This pattern is then likely to persist, with many areas likely remaining mostly fine, and the greatest chance of cloud and rain being across the far west and more especially northwest. Temperatures during this period are likely to be on the warmer side of average, but with settled conditions warm days could be offset by a few chilly nights. Towards the end of this period there is a signal that the more settled conditions may cease.

The recent spell of more blocked weather patterns may ease at the beginning of this period, with a gradual revert back to a more mobile west or southwesterly type most likely, with low pressure often centred to the northwest of the UK and high pressure over the nearby continent. This would bring spells of wet and sometimes windy conditions, most frequently in the northwest, with longer drier periods towards the south and east. Temperatures will typically be near normal, perhaps a little below at times in the northwest especially, with the chance of some occasional warmer conditions in the south and east.
