Wednesday mainly cloudy with rain at times.

This Evening and Tonight:

North and east Highland will stay dry with some clear spells this evening. Elsewhere will be cloudier with occasional rain developing tonight, extending to most areas by morning, some heavy.. Minimum temperature 6 °C.

Wednesday:

Rather cloudy with outbreaks of rain moving northwards, turning heavy and perhaps thundery. Some drier and brighter spells, especially in the Inverness area. Feeling very mild, even quite warm. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Rain clearing overnight then sunny spells and scattered showers on Thursday. Changeable and unsettled for Friday and weekend with bands of rain moving east and strong winds at times.

There is potential for a deep area of low pressure to pass over or close to the west/northwest of the UK early in this period, potentially bringing a spell of very strong winds and heavy rain, especially to parts of the north and west. Through next week, an oscillation between occasional spells of rain, most frequent in the northwest, with longer drier interludes in-between, is likely. It may be rather windy at times too, again especially in northern and western areas. Towards late October there are signs that, whilst northwestern areas may continue to see some rain at times, high pressure may become increasingly influential, potentially bringing more widely settled and drier conditions, with an increasing chance of overnight frost and fog.

High pressure may become more influential into early November, potentially providing longer spells of dry weather, but with the chance of overnight frost and fog becoming rather more widespread than in the days preceding this period. Some large fluctuations between daytime and night-time temperatures are possible, with relatively mild days where fog doesn't linger, and cold frosty nights. Towards mid-November, high pressure may become more focussed towards the northwest of the UK, allowing a gradual trend towards colder and perhaps more unsettled conditions, especially in more southern and eastern areas.
