Rain reaching the Western Isles just after daybreak, a dry start for the mainland but rain spreading east across remaining areas by late morning. Drier weather with a few showers following later. Windy in northwest at first. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Tonight:

Feeling fresher with some showers through the evening, blustery northwesterly winds too. Showers wintry on higher ground but mostly dying out later in the night, clear spells by dawn. Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Sunday:

A dry and bright morning with some winter sunshine for most, winds strengthening in the afternoon and more cloud for the northwest later. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

A cloudy day Monday, some light rain and drizzle at times, windy too. Early rain on Tuesday but becoming a dry and sunny day. Bright start Wed but rain later.

On Wednesday, a band of cloud and outbreaks of light rain or drizzle in central areas at first, moving northwards later. A clearer and colder day in the south, with sunny spells, however isolated fog or freezing fog here initially. Ending the week, a southeast and northwest split is predicted, with high pressure in the southeast and low in the northwest. This would likely lead to dry weather and sunny spells in the southeast, with cloud and outbreaks of rain and drizzle in the northwest, also a risk of coastal gales here. This pattern is predicted to continue further into the period, with dry and settled weather for many parts of the UK much of the time. Temperatures rather mild in the north but closer to average in the south.

During the period, generally settled weather conditions are expected across the UK. Frontal systems bringing rain and strong winds are expected in the northwest, perhaps spreading further into the southeast at times, although much of the south and southeast may stay largely dry. Temperatures overall will be above normal, with a small chance of colder conditions.
