Festival forecast: Mixed weather outlook for UK events this week

Author: Met Office

A busy week of music festivals across the UK will see a mixed weather picture, with spells of fine and increasingly warm conditions at times, but also periods of rain and showers.

As the week progresses, many areas are expected to turn warmer and more humid, bringing the added risk of thundery downpours in places.

Isle Of Wight Festival 18-21 June

Conditions will start on a cloudier note, with some patchy rain possible early in the period. However, a more settled spell is expected into Thursday and Friday, bringing plenty of bright or sunny intervals.

Temperatures are likely to rise through the festival, becoming very warm and perhaps locally hot. Increasing humidity may lead to the development of thundery showers later in the period, with a risk of brief heavy rain and gusty conditions.

On The Waterfront Festival 18-21 June

A changeable pattern is expected here, with conditions unsettled at times. Showers and spells of rain are likely to move through, though these will be interspersed with drier, brighter intervals.

Temperatures are expected to edge upwards compared to earlier in the week, bringing a warmer feel when sunshine breaks through. However, timings of rain and dry spells remain somewhat uncertain, so conditions may vary across the festival days.

Further north, conditions are expected to be more consistently unsettled. A series of weather fronts will bring bands of rain spreading up from the southwest.

These may be showery at times, but could also become more persistent, particularly during certain periods. While there will be occasional brighter interludes, these are likely to be short-lived, and overall conditions will lean wetter than elsewhere.

A mixed picture is also expected, with further spells of rain at times, but also drier and brighter interludes.

It will feel warm for many, with increasing humidity as the week progresses. These conditions may lead to occasional heavier showers developing, especially during warmer parts of the day.

Parklife Festival 20-21 June

Unsettled conditions are likely at times, with showers and spells of rain moving through. Despite this, there will be opportunities for drier and brighter weather, particularly between weather systems.

Temperatures will be mild to warm, though conditions may fluctuate through the weekend, with some uncertainty over the extent of rain and sunshine.

Staying prepared for changeable conditions

Overall, the festival outlook reflects a typical variable UK summer pattern, combining warm sunshine with periods of rain and the risk of thunderstorms, particularly later in the week as humidity increases.

Forecast confidence remains moderate, especially regarding the timing and intensity of showers. Festivalgoers are advised to stay up to date with the latest forecasts and be prepared for a range of conditions, from warm sunny spells to sudden downpours.
