Headline:

Patchy rain and sunny intervals today. Cloudy with rain tonight.

Today:

A cloudy and damp start for many, with patches of rain lingering along the south coast. Brightening from the north, with some hazy sunny spells developing for a time later in the afternoon. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Tonight:

A bright start to the evening away from the south coast. Cloud and slow moving rain will move north overnight, rain perhaps heavy at times. Minimum temperature 5 °C.

Saturday:

A cloudy start with outbreaks of rain moving north. Becoming drier and brighter into the afternoon before winds strengthen and further rain arrives from the south overnight. Mild. Maximum temperature 15 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

A spell of heavy rain initially Sunday, replaced by sunny spells later. Breezy Monday, but largely dry with sunny intervals. Sunny spells and scattered showers or rain Tuesday. Increasingly mild.

UK long range weather forecast

In the first part of this period, many areas of the UK are expected to see periods of rain or showers. Some of these showers will be heavy and thundery, with the greatest chance of thunderstorms in the southeast. Along with this will be a fair amount of low cloud in the east at times, with spells of coastal fog, but also temperatures generally above average for the time of year. Overall, northwestern parts of the UK are likely to be driest and sunniest. Through the second week, temperatures will return closer to normal, perhaps dipping back below average, but it will also tend to turn gradually drier and more settled, with changeable conditions most likely to hang on longest in the south and southeast.

In this period, the chances of unsettled weather are slightly less than usual in the north and about the same as usual further south. Therefore, some spells of wetter weather are likely for all, but perhaps especially southern areas with the driest conditions probably further north. Temperatures probably near average though with some cooler interludes possible. Also worth noting that average temperatures themselves rise by around 1C per week at this time of year.
