Regional Forecast for London & South East England

Headline:

Cold, but mostly dry with some brighter spells.

Today:

A cold, bright and frosty start, with light winds. Most places dry, although cloud thickening from the west, bringing the chance of rain or sleet across western parts by the evening. Maximum temperature 3 °C.

Tonight:

Cold with further outbreaks of rain, sleet and perhaps some hill snow spreading east overnight. Also rather cloudy, with some hill fog. Minimum temperature 1 °C.

Saturday:

Cold, and rather cloudy, with hill fog persisting in places. Rain or sleet likely, perhaps brief snow across the North Downs, but gradually easing. Less cold in the southwest. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Sunday and Monday largely fine, dry but becoming cloudy after bright starts. Overnight frosts possible. Windy early morning Tuesday, with rain, perhaps some snow, clearing to sunshine. Cold.

Updated: 01:34 on Fri 18 Jan 2019 GMT

UK forecast for the next 5 days

Headline:

A cold spell, with patchy ice and snow.

Today:

A sharp frost, with icy patches in eastern England, will be followed by a cold and bright day in the north and east. Cloud, rain and hill snow will spread from the west. Snow may briefly fall at low levels.

Tonight:

Northern Scotland will be frosty and clear. It will be cloudy elsewhere with rain, sleet and perhaps a little patchy snow. Heavy showers are expected in the southwest.

Saturday:

Scotland will be cold and dry. Rain or showers are likely elsewhere, some heavy in the southwest. These will mostly fall as rain, but snow is likely in northern England.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

After early frost, rain and hill snow will cross the UK later on Sunday. On Monday and Tuesday heavier rain, gales and some snow will probably move southeastwards from Scotland.

Updated: 01:17 on Fri 18 Jan 2019 GMT

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Wednesday 23 Jan 2019 to Friday 1 Feb 2019:

The latter half of next week looks to stay cold or very cold, with frosts likely most nights. There may be cloud, rain and hill snow perhaps on Wednesday or Thursday, but thereafter turning brighter with showers. These will feed in from eastern coasts, but are likely to bring sleet or snow for some. There is a small chance of a weather system approaching the northwest over the weekend, which could bring significant amounts of snow on meeting the cold air. However, this is still very uncertain and it is best to stay up to date with the latest forecast. It will stay cold until the end of January with spells of rain, sleet and snow at times. However, some drier and brighter interludes are still likely, with overnight frost.

UK Outlook for Saturday 2 Feb 2019 to Saturday 16 Feb 2019:

The cold weather will continue as we head through the first half of February. There is a greater risk of seeing snow at lower levels as well as on the hills. Some drier and brighter periods are possible in the northwest, but in the south there is a chance of weather fronts approaching which bring a risk of rain, sleet and perhaps significant snow at times.
