Rain, locally heavy clearing to a brighter afternoon

Today:

Rain during the morning, locally heavy, will gradually clear southeastwards allowing skies to brighten towards the middle of the day. A fine afternoon following with some decent sunny spells. Breezy at first, but feeling pleasant in the afternoon sunshine. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Tonight:

Patchy cloud on Sunday evening will give way to lengthy clear spells overnight, perhaps with localised mist and fog patches developing. Cloud may increase near to the south coast later. Minimum temperature 8 °C.

Monday:

A bright start for many once any early fog clears. However, cloud near to the south coast will spread north, limiting sunshine and giving a risk of the odd shower. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Becoming windy on Tuesday with patchy light rain. Wednesday probably starting with heavy rain, this clearing with drier and brighter conditions following. A day of sunshine and showers on Thursday.

A north/south split in weather conditions is likely over the latter part of next week, with rain and showers affecting the north, while the south holds on to drier weather. It may be windy at times, especially across the north and northwest, where gales are possible. Temperatures close to normal in the north and feeling rather mild in the south. Unsettled weather continues for many into the following week, with showers in northern areas likely to spread southwards. High pressure may develop across the UK throughout the rest of the period, with occasional frontal systems bringing some periods of rain. However, towards the end of the period, deep lower pressure is expected. Temperatures generally returning to above normal, however, cooler nights could make way for potential mist and fog.

We may see lower pressure dominating through the rest of October. This lower pressure regime is likely to bring periods of rain across the UK, but some drier spells and potential mist and fog can be expected too, most likely at the beginning of the period. Temperatures likely to remain above normal throughout.
