Rain this morning, brighter with showers this afternoon.

Today:

Rain spreading northeast this morning. Rain in places at first this afternoon before drier, brighter weather with a few showers spreads from the west. Windy, fresh to strong south to southwesterly winds, occasionally gale force in the west. Mild. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Tonight:

Dry start in the east this evening. Otherwise variable amounts of cloud and scattered showers overnight. Strong southwesterly winds in the far northwest this evening. Cold with icy patches. Minimum temperature 4 °C.

Thursday:

A colder day with sunny intervals and scattered showers, occasionally heavy and wintry in the west. Drier around the Moray coast. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Showers across the west on Friday and Saturday, mainly dry and bright in the east. Becoming largely dry on Sunday. Staying rather cold with overnight frost and icy patches.

It will remain changeable through Sunday and Monday with a longer spell of rain likely across the south or southwest, and a scattered few showers elsewhere. Temperatures will be close to average, with some night time frosts. Although near normal, these temperatures will feel like a marked contrast to the mild conditions of recent weeks. A generally unsettled pattern is most likely to continue through to early March bringing spells of rain across all areas at times, wettest in the west and northwest, where it'll be windy too at times. Temperatures generally around average though some short-lived colder interludes are possible, these more likely in the north which may allow some sleet or snow to fall to lower levels at times.

An initial continuation of unsettled conditions is most likely in this period with low pressure systems likely to continue to cross west-to-east over or close-to the UK, with mostly short-lived spells of drier and brighter weather between times. Temperatures are likely to be near or slightly above normal overall, with occasional night frosts, but values will fluctuate as weather systems come and go. From mid-March, the chance of a longer period of more settled and drier weather increases.
