A mostly dry day with just a few light showers over Shetland at first. It will be a brighter day with sunny spells although clouding over this evening. Winds becoming light. Maximum temperature 14 °C.

Tonight:

Cloudy overnight with clouds thickening to give some patches of light rain, especially over Shetland. A mild night with brisk southerly winds. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Tuesday:

Cloudy start but any light rain at first, soon dying out. Clouds thinning during the morning with some hazy sunshine developing, best over Orkney. Lighter southerly winds. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Dry, settled weather continuing over the Northern Isles. There will be sunny spells, although mist and low cloud will affect the Isles at times on Thursday and Friday.

Settled but often cloudy across many central and northern areas through the weekend, with the best of the sun found to the west of high ground. Whereas showers and some thunderstorms are expected by day across the south. Most places away from North Sea coasts will see above average temperatures through the weekend. Early next week, the risk of showers and thunderstorms will reduce across the south, with a very short-lived settled spell likely as the transition occurs. Following this transition areas of cloud, rain and stronger winds are expected to push in from the west once again, but the focus for this heavy rain is likely to be across the southern half of the UK, with more settled conditions perhaps holding on for the longest in the north.

Typical autumn weather will probably affect the UK with a mix of weather types at the end of September and during early October. Periods of wet, unsettled weather will likely be broken up by some spells of more settled, drier weather. Overall, the wettest conditions will probably be in the west with the east drier. Temperatures are most likely to be close to or slightly above average.
