North West England weather forecast

Sunshine and blustery showers, and feeling chilly in brisk winds.

Today:

A largely dry start, though blustery showers soon breaking out. These heavy at times, with the risk of hail and thunder and sunny spells in between. Winds strengthening, especially later in the day. Chilly in the brisk breeze. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Tonight:

Winds strengthening overnight and turning very blustery by the morning. A mix of clear spells and showers, these merging into longer spells of rain and turning heavy with hail. Minimum temperature 4 °C.

Monday:

Sunny spells and blustery showers, possibly heavy at times with hail, the odd rumble of thunder and some wintriness over the hills. Feeling noticeably chiller compared with recent days. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Drier for the rest of the week though showers possible at times and some rain by Thursday. Often breezy. Temperatures around average and not feeling as warm than of late.

Winds from the north or northwest are expected to affect the UK at the start of this period. Some showers or longer spells of rain are likely at times, these heaviest across the north and northwest, though systems still likely reaching the south east on Thursday. Temperatures are expected to mostly be below normal edging toward average or just above into the new week. Through the weekend and into the new week a build of pressure will probably occur, meaning more in the way of dry weather across the UK as a whole. Some rain of light showers will still be possible at times, if these develop they will be more likely to affect the northwest.

Towards the end of April, high pressure will probably be close to the UK with a good deal of dry weather for many areas. Moving into May, these settled conditions will probably move northwards, with the driest weather across the northwest of the UK. If any more unsettled conditions develop these are more likely to affect south with a risk of some heavy rain or showers. Temperatures will probably be close to average overall, with warm days but some colder nights.
